Social Democrats divided
The Swedish government’s agreement on nuclear power, the spotlight on divisions within the Swedish Socialist Party. Even before allianspartierna agreed, the Swedish Social Democratic leader Mona Sahlin criticized the idea of building new nuclear power plants.

She also said she is convinced that the fight against climate threat is urgent infinitely more than the construction of new, expensive nuclear power, also take a very long time. The idea to replace obsolete nuclear plants with new ones, she is not much.
- I am confident that we will replace the existing reactors against renewable electricity at the rate we get it, just as we did with Barsebäck, ”said Sahlin. Whether electricity from Barsebäck replaced by renewable energy or not, has been questioned. But above all, not everyone in the party Sahlins averse attitude to nuclear power.
Industrial unions and the local politicians which is dependent on heavy industry has a much more open attitude to nuclear power. IF Metall’s Congress has decided to support nuclear power.
